The seven steps
What happens in Uganda, in order
These are the desks of the One Stop Centre operated by the Uganda Investment Authority in Kampala. The Warsaw Centre prepares your file for each of them.
UIA — Investment licence
The Uganda Investment Authority receives and appraises applications for the investment licence, advises on secondary licences required by sector regulators, on land in UIA industrial and business parks, and on the incentives attached to the licence.
URSB — Company registration
The Uganda Registration Services Bureau registers local and foreign companies, business names and legal documents, and advises on the right corporate form.
URA — Tax identification
The Uganda Revenue Authority issues the Tax Identification Number (TIN) and explains the tax structure and the tax incentives available to investors.
UNBS — Standards and certification
The Uganda National Bureau of Standards advises on applicable Ugandan standards, product and system certification, laboratory testing, and on import and export requirements.
NEMA — Environmental clearance
The National Environment Management Authority handles Environmental and Social Impact Assessment requirements. Projects in manufacturing, mining, agriculture, transport, energy infrastructure, forestry and works on water resources normally require clearance.
IMMIGRATION — Permits and visas
The Directorate of Citizenship and Immigration Control processes work permits, dependant passes, special passes, student passes, certificates of residence, visas and their extensions.
AFTERCARE — Aftercare and monitoring
After the licence is issued the investor keeps a case officer: aftercare visits, help with land in industrial parks, follow-up with regulators, and support in resolving operational bottlenecks.

Requirements change with amendments to the Investment Code and related regulations — always confirm the current position with the Centre before filing.
